Kunstpunkte 2026: The Girl Mia – On Perception, Interpretation and the Possibilities of Image Creation
Photography meets AI art: What emerges – and what remains hidden – when the same story is told through two fundamentally different artistic forms of expression?
How does a story change when it is told in completely different ways – once through the lens of photography and once through the possibilities of artificial intelligence?
“The Girl Mia” is not a competition between two artistic approaches, but an open dialogue about perception, image creation and interpretation. On one side is the documentary immediacy of Thomas Klingberg’s photography, capturing real encounters in the present moment. On the other side, the AI-based visual language developed by Markus Hirtz opens an experimental approach to exploring new possibilities of image creation.
At the center of the project is Mia, eleven years old – not merely as a subject, but as the narrator of the story. Her thoughts, impressions and imagination form the connecting thread throughout the exhibition. She links both artistic perspectives and becomes the starting point for two distinct visual interpretations.
The result is a layered artistic experiment exploring how reality can be interpreted – and which aspects become visible or remain hidden depending on how images are created.
