Animalia – The Animal as Subject: 18 Artistic Positions at BBK Kunstforum

The group exhibition “Animalia” brings together 28 works by 18 artists and focuses on the animal as subject, counterpart, and part of our shared world. Different artistic positions explore the many ways in which encounters between humans and animals can be perceived and represented. I am represented in the exhibition with three works.

At the heart of the exhibition are questions of proximity and distance, care and exploitation, as well as the ideas and attitudes that shape our relationship with animals. The focus is not only on the depiction of animals, but also on the human perspective on the animal world.

The exhibition opens on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 7:00 PM. The opening will feature remarks by Christine Renner, Chair of BBK Düsseldorf, and Mayor Clara Gerlach. Katja Panyutina will give an introduction to the exhibition. Artist Xenia Valezka Ende will present her performance “Zoochosis / Signs of Sleep.”

“Animalia” will be on view from October 1 to 25, 2026, at BBK Kunstforum Düsseldorf, Birkenstraße 47.
