Photography exhibition in Düsseldorf: Focus on the essentials=

Photo exhibition “Focus on the essentials”

Black and white photography at BBK Kunstforum

From 11 to 21 January 2024, the German Federal Association of Visual Artists will be presenting black-and-white photographs by its members Eckhart Christensen, Günter Claus, Hanne Horn, Thomas Klingberg and Renate Scherra at the Bezirksverband Düsseldorf.

The speciality of black and white photography lies in its reduction to the basic elements of visual perception. By using grey tones, the focus is directed to the essential aspects of a photograph. Shapes, contrasts, light and shadow stand out more clearly without distracting from the variety of colours.

The absence of colour gives black and white images a timeless appearance that makes them independent of stylistic trends and eras. This timeless aesthetic makes it possible to create emotional depth and lead viewers to a powerful, reduced level of visual language.

For Eckhart Christensen, Günter Claus, Hanne Horn, Thomas Klingberg and Renate Scherra, black and white photography has always been their favourite means of artistic expression. Through the reduction to light and shadow, they create timeless and visually dynamic compositions. The exhibiting artists present an exciting journey through their photographic creative periods.

The participating artists show a cross-section of their photographic work of the past decades in analogue and digital black-and-white photographs.
